Zines have a long history as handmade publications that people create outside of traditional publishing. They are usually short, personal, and a little experimental. They exist because someone had an idea they wanted to share and decided to make it tangible.
This zine was created by Jessica Sowards (Roots and Refuge Farm) and Morgan Gold (Gold Shaw Farm) as a companion to their live show, Something Real. The show was built around creativity, storytelling, and the belief that making things still matters. We knew that most of the people who follow our work would never be able to sit in that room with us, so we wanted to offer something you could hold in your hands instead.
Inside, you will find a blend of writing and visual work from both of us. It reflects the same spirit as the show. Some pages will make you think. Some will make you smile. All of it was created by us and put together with care.
This zine is a snapshot of a collaboration. It is an offering to anyone who has followed along with our work and wanted to be part of this with us, even from far away.
This first edition is 24 pages long, including the covers, black and white and meant to be enjoyed in the slow, intentional way of real things. We are planning to create future editions over time, so this marks the beginning of the project.
